Frequently Asked Questions

How much will my family tree research cost?

Once you have contacted us we will get back to you with a free, no obligation, estimate for your requested research. Costs will depend on the starting information you are able to provide and the availability of relevant records. An estimate will also vary for a one-off search, a single line of enquiry or research involving both the paternal and maternal lines. We conduct research in stages with an agreed budget for each stage. We also have a monthly instalment plan to spread the cost.

How far can you go with my family tree?

A full round of research will normally trace both maternal and paternal lines back several further generations. We can never guarantee exactly how far we shall be able to proceed during any particular stage. All families are different and unique in their own way. We will aim to go back as far as possible within the budget agreed.

Once we have exhausted the funds available, we will return to you with the option to proceed further. You may find that the information we have discovered during the first stage is enough to satisfy your curiosity or you may wish to continue the research, research another ancestral line, or wait a while before initiating further research. This is entirely up to you.

What information do you need to research my family tree?

We can begin research with as much or as little information as you have. We ask that you provide as much information as you know about your family, and if needs be, we can begin with just your name and date of birth.

How long will the family tree research take?

We aim to complete our enquiries within 4 to 8 weeks. If the research is likely to continue for a longer period of time, you will be kept informed of our progress. Smaller commissions can be undertaken in less time.

What will I receive?

Once we have completed the family history research for you, you will receive a full narrative report in a loose leaf folder, bound with ribbon and including a title page. The report contains copies of documents examined, including transcripts of these, together with any certificates purchased. Full details regarding the historical sources consulted are also given. We can also supply additional copies of our reports for relatives if desired.

What areas and countries do you cover?

Whilst the majority of our genealogy research is carried out in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland, we do have researchers farther afield. Please contact us with your enquiry to see if we can be of assistance.

“I am delighted with your report.”
Miss J.B., Hollingbourne
